Laos Open: Bayron sizzles with 66, leads 3 Thais by 2 shots
Rufino Bayron took a big step in claiming his first pro win as he sizzled with a six-under-par 66 for a two-stroke lead over three Thais at the start of the $80,000 Laos Open in Luang Prabang, Laos. The Laos Open is the season-opening event of the ASEAN PGA Tour. The 30-year-old Bayron, who hails from Davao City, waxed hot with a bogey-free round at the Luang Prabang Golf Club, making six birdies overall on Nos. 3, 4, 6, 7, 12 and 16. He leads by two off Pornlapat Wongchindawest, Sattaya Sapuppramai and Ekalak Waisayakul. Malaysian Nicholas Pua and Thai Thaworn Wiratchant submitted 69s each. "My drives were off. Luckily, my short irons and putting worked well," said Bayron, who last recorded a win when he was still an amateur. Jay Bayron, Rufino's younger brother, and former Hong Kong Amateur Open champion Dante Becierra checked in with identical 71s to share 11th place with four others. — Adrian Flores/JVP, GMA News
