Cycling: Australian trio withdraws from Giro d'Italia

CERVINIA, Italy—Australian trio Matt Goss, Brett Lancaster and Mark Renshaw withdrew from the Giro d'Italia prior to the 14th stage from Cherasco to here on Saturday.
 
Goss - winner of the third stage - will next be seen at the Tour of Slovenia in June according to his team GreenEdge.
 
Argentinian sprint ace Juan Jose Haedo also withdrew prior to the first truly challenging mountainous stage which is a 205km ride including two category one climbs the col de Joux and the final climb to Cervinia, which rises to 2001 metres.
 
Their withdrawal leaves 181 riders in the race, the first major tour of the season. — AFP
