The Barako Bull Energy "Manong Republic" got a shot of youthful energy from 23-year old import Jamine Peterson, as the former NBA Developmental League talent scored 33 points in his debut, good for a 106-101 victory over the Powerade Tigers, Friday in the team's PBA Governor's Cup debut at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Barako import started hot, scoring 10 points early in the first quarter to give his team a 17-5 lead over the Powerade Tigers.

A Wynne Arboleda layup made it 22-8 to Barako before Gary David tried to stop the bleading by draining a three, 22-11. The two-time scoring champion ended the quarter with two more layups, as he and Sean Anthony clipped the Barako lead to three to end the first quarter, 27-24.

In the second, Peterson went on a frenzy, scoring 12 points to keep Barako ahead at the half, 50-49.

In the third, new acquisition Rabeh Al-Hussaini posted back to back hits to bring Powerade closer, 58-52.

But Willie Miller, Carlo Sharma, and Danny Seigle challenged every Tiger surge as they kept Barako ahead, 63-60. David, Doug Kramer, and Sean Anthony continued to challenge the Barako interior defense as they scored to keep Powerade close at the end of the third, 76-74.

Sunday Salvacion opened up the fourth quarter with five straight points to extend the Barako lead to six, 84-78, before a Don Allado jumper widened the gap to 11 at 91-80.

Powerade's last push started with a David layup to make it 96-91. Tiger import Rashad McCants followed it up with two triples to inch closer to Barako with less than a minute left, 101-97.

A Seigle jumper sealed the victory for Barako before a Peterson slam capped off the game.

"I think our import wants to prove himself. He wants to show something this early. I hope he can sustain it. With Peterson, I'm happy with what i saw," said Barako head coach Junel Baculi.
