A swindler who was arrested for fooling many residents into buying lots in Davao City was made to eat one of his fake land titles by no less than the city's vice mayor before dawn Tuesday.
Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte visited the detention facility where Manolito Gavas was being held and forced him to eat the document, radio dzBB's Davao affiliate reported.
Duterte, the father of city mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, was a former local chief executive of the city and is known for his no-nonsense attitude against criminals.
The report said Gavas had been arrested Monday for allegedly convincing city residents they can own lots in the city.
Many of his victims paid P250 a month for the supposed land title, the report said.
The report said even Mayor Duterte-Carpio was angered when she learned of Gavas' activities.
In July last year, an angry Mayor Duterte-Carpio punched a sheriff who insisted on carrying out a court order to demolish shanties despite her request to the court to delay the demolition.
Duterte has since apologized to sheriff Abe Andres for the incident. — RSJ, GMA News
