NBA: Trail Blazers announce Terry Stotts as new head coach

August 8, 2012 8:33am
The Portland Trail Blazers have released a press release confirming the hiring of Terry Stotts as the team's new head coach.

Stotts, an 18-year coaching veteran, was most recently an assistant with the Dallas Mavericks from 2008 to 2012, and his last head coaching job came with the Milwaukee Bucks, from 2005 to 2007, where he compiled a 63-83 record and a playoff appearance in 2006.

General manager Neil Olshey in the release said, "Terry is one of the elite offensive minds in the NBA, has extensive experience with multiple organizations and was instrumental in the Dallas Mavericks winning the 2011 NBA Championship.

"He understands the vision for the future of the franchise, appreciates the process involved and will create an environment on the court that will produce championship habits."

Stotts beat out Kaleb Canales, who was the team's interim coach last season after Nate McMillan was fired.
