Filipino animators are making waves in Hollywood’s Pixar, Hanna Barbera, Disney and Warner Brothers.
However, the “sophisticated talent and creative instinct of Filipino animators” are not just in demand abroad. It also makes the Philippines the “preferred outsourcing partner of big international production outfits” globally, according to a top executive of an outsourcing unit of US bank Wells Fargo.
"Indeed, there are really great prospects for the Philippine animation industry, eminent through the country's sectoral advantage," David Caldwell, managing director of Wells Fargo Philippines Solutions Inc., said in a business conference.
Wells Fargo is the fourth largest bank in the United States. Wells Fargo Philippines Solutions Inc. is one of its subsidiaries.
The business process outsourcing (BPO) industry is one of the fastest-growing industries in the country.
In a November 2011 article, New York Times hailed the Philippines as the new “call center capital” of the world, toppling India down from the coveted post in international business.
Non-voice BPO such as animation, publishing and engineering design now contribute to the growth of the industry in the country.
Citing data, Caldwell said the non-voice BPO segment expanded from 15 percent to 20 percent from 2006 to 2010.
The BPO industry is projected to grow by $25 billion in revenues, employ more than 1.3 million Filipinos, and share 9 percent to the gross domestic product within four years, according to the Wells Fargo Philippines official.
In 2011, the Philippine BPO industry posted $11 billion in revenues.
Caldwell Noted that the country “has robust infrastructure to support relevant animation activities.”
Big international companies also rely on Filipino animators due to lower cost of services, English proficiency, consistent quality and speed in output, and higher comprehension ability, Caldwell added.
Other promising segments in non-voice BPO include engineering design, information technology services, back office, legal transcription, and knowledge process outsourcing.
Caldwell said that engineering design is one of the fastest growing non-voice BPO sector.
"[They are] ready to support the almost $250-million engineering design sector in the country, growing at more than 50 percent yearly," Caldwell said. — With Shaira Panela/VS, GMA News
