The couple accused of abusing their 21-year-old house helper on Wednesday appeared for the first time before the Senate committee investigating the issue.

 

Reynold and Analiza Marzan, charged for maltreating their helper Bonita Baran, surfaced at the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) before noon on Monday.

Baran said her employers had hit her repeatedly with plates, vases and a broomstick. She added her female employer pressed a hot flat iron on her face, costing her her eyesight. 

 

Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada, chairperson of the Senate labor committee, asked the NBI and the Department of Justice to allow the Senate to take custody of the couple because his panel had also issued warrants of arrest against them.

 

Estrada said the two will be turned over to the proper authorities after the Senate labor committee conducts its last hearing on the matter on Wednesday. - VVP, GMA News
