Eugene Domingo, Lea Salonga lead nominees in intl theater award

November 9, 2012 2:00pm
Homegrown theater artist Eugene Domingo, Tony Award winner Lea Salonga, Fil-Aussie
Broadway star MiG Ayesa, and Emmy nominated Art Acuna lead the nominees in the theater
award given by an international news site.
Filipino productions like PETA’s “Bona” and Dulaang UP’s “The Seagull” go head to head with international touring shows like “The King and I” and “The Phantom of the Opera”— a good sign, say the people behind the New York-based BroadwayWorld Philippines, which covers shows that ran in the country between October 2011 and September 2012.
“It’s a reflection that we provide equal opportunity for everyone,” said BroadwayWorld New York editor-in-chief Robert Diamond.
“For us, there is no big or small production. We want to recognize all the efforts of those who put on a good show for their respective audiences.”
Diamond added, “Making it to the nominees’ list is already an achievement in itself.
Everyone is already a winner.”

BroadwayWorld received more than 4,000 entries and trimmed these down to a shortlist.
