(Updated 9:00am) Japeth Aguilar's NBA Development League dream is over, for now.
The 6'9" Filipino big man will be placed on waivers on Friday, November 23 (Saturday, PHL time), his team, the Santa Cruz Warriors, announced.
Aguilar had been drafted in the seventh round of the 2012 NBA-DL draft with the 13th pick.
After surviving the first two rounds of cuts, Aguilar logged 11 minutes in one of his team's exhibition games, but his performance apparently was not up to snuff for the squad.
D-League rosters have a maximum of 12 players, with at most 10 being D-League players, plus two or more who have been assigned from the NBA. After beginning training camp with 17 players, the Warriors have now made six cuts, including Aguilar.
The decision to cut Aguilar comes amidst a storm of publicity for the former Talk 'N Text Tropang Texter. The NBA-DL website dubbed him "The Filipino Phenomenon" and conducted a lengthy interview with him. Aguilar had also received a lot of attention during the team's media day.
There is still an outside chance though that Aguilar could be picked up off waivers by another squad. Another possibility though is a return to the Philippines, where he could come back to Talk 'N Text, who currently own his rights. - AMD, GMA News
