Tom Hardy to play Sam Fisher in 'Splinter Cell' movie

Another popular video game franchise is set for a film adaptation, and one of Hollywood’s toughest male actors is set to star in it!
Popularly known for his recent portrayal of Bane in Christopher Nolan’s final Batman film “The Dark Knight Rises”, English actor Tom Hardy is set to play one of science fiction and gaming’s top action heroes: Sam Fischer, the lead character of Tom Clancy’s highly acclaimed “Splinter Cell” franchise.

Developed into an equally successful series of games by Ubisoft, the Splinter Cell games details the adventure of Fischer, a retired U.S Navy Seal operative who now works as a highly trained black ops agent of the fictional government sub-agency “Third Echelon”. Using his training in covert operations and stealth, Fischer is sent through various missions worldwide to stop terrorist threats and rogue forces bent on world domination.
Based on the series that started with original game that was released in 2002 for the Playstation 2, Windows, Nintendo Gamecube, and Xbox, Splinter Cell is a good fit for Tom Hardy, and his background in method acting and building up physique to match his roles makes him a perfect choice to play Sam Fischer. Ubisoft Motion Pictures has partnered up with New Regency to develop the Splinter Cell film, and both companies are also set to develop the highly acclaimed Assassin Creed series into a motion picture as well, with Michael Fassbender set to star as Desmond Miles. A press release with details has been released online, but no release date has been scheduled for the film as of yet.
Meanwhile, a new Splinter Cell game, entitled “Splinter Cell Blacklist, is scheduled for release in Spring 2013. — TJD, GMA News
