A leader of a notorious robbery gang was sprung from the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City early Saturday, a radio report said. Three unidentified men overpowered the prison guards to spring Ricky Cadavero, leader of the Ozamiz Gang, from detention, according to a report on Radyo Mo Nationwide (RMN). Southern Police District head Chief Superintendent Benito Estipona was quoted in the report as saying an initial information indicated the incident occurred at 6 a.m. He said three men reportedly overpowered the guards and spirited Cadavero out of the prison aboard a motorcycle. The RMN report quoted police as saying the armed men pretended to be a visitor of Cadavero, who was linked to the violent robbery at the Alabang Town Center earlier this year. Cadavero was also linked to the robbery hold-up of a bank in Quezon City in 2008. It was the latest breach at the high-security facility, coming a month after a grenade exploded inside the national penitentiary's maximum-security area, injuring at least six. Earlier this year, convicted killer Rolito Go disappeared from the penitentiary and surfaced a few days later, claiming he was abducted. — LBG, GMA News
