The chief of staff of Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile offered to resign from her post, the senator's office confirmed with GMA News Online late Wednesday.
However, Enrile's office said that the Senate President did not accept the resignation of Atty. Gigi Reyes, whom Senate Minority Floor Leader Alan Peter Cayetano spent a good part of a privilege speech admonishing Wednesday afternoon.
"Atty. Gigi Reyes submitted her letter of resignation but SPJPE did not accept," an Enrile staffmember said in a text message.
The development came after Cayetano in a privilege speech televised live questioned Reyes' power over Senate matters. He specifically questioned her signing in behalf of Enrile and her being allowed inside caucuses where only senators are usually present.
He likewise said he was offended when Reyes called him and other Enrile critics hypocrites over the radio.
Aside from this, the senator also accused Enrile and Reyes of mistreating him.
He said the two probably disliked him because they were close to his family's political rivals in Taguig and former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, of whom he was a frequent critic. – HS, GMA News
