Protesting victims of Typhoon Pablo on Tuesday looted the local office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Davao City, a television report said.

According to a report aired over GMA News TV Live, the protesting victims took several bags of rice which they said were not fairly distributed to them.

The report said the policemen and protesters got into a confrontation, resulting in the injury of a young girl and the destruction of the DSWD office's gate.

The commotion likewise reportedly prevented several DSWD employees from reporting for work.

A separate report by Senior Superintendent Ronald de la Rosa, director of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), said around 2,000 rallyists coming from Compostela Valley and Davao Oriental looted the regional office of DSWD at Suazon St., Davao City around 11 a.m. on Tuesday.

He said the group, reportedly led by militant leaders, carted out 600 boxes of noodles, 3,000 food packs, 150 boxes of coffee but were immediately held by responding policemen.

He said the DCPO is now holding its tactical command post inside the DSWD compound while rallyists are being limited outside the premises. Typhoon Pablo struck Mindanao in December last year, killing over 1,000 people and leaving  hundred others missing. — with Kimberly Jane Tan/RSJ, GMA News
