PNP chief's mistah named Prisons OIC
President Benigno Aquino III has appointed former police official Franklin Jesus Bucayu as officer-in-charge of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor). Aquino signed Bucayu’s appointment papers on March 5, according to a statement from the Department of Justice (DOJ) as read by presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda at a press briefing in Malacañang. “It is time to move forward with the major reforms in the in the premier correctional institute of the country, the Bureau of Corrections,” said Justice Secretary Leila de Lima in the statement, adding that Bucayu’s appointment is “a paradigm shift in the management of our prisons.” Aside from being the former head of the Ilocos Regional Police, Bucayu was also a former chief of the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) Human Rights Affairs Office. He is also a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy class of 1981 along with PNP chief Director General Alan Purisima and Armed Forces chief of staff Gen. Emmanuel Bautista. Bucayu replaced Gaudencio Pangilinan, who went on an indefinite leave before tendering his resignation in December last year after the alleged abduction of convicted killer Rolito Go under his watch. — Patricia Denise Chiu/KBK, GMA News
