Expanding her artistic genre to land more roles, Filipino-American Hollywood actress Vanessa Hudgens goes from good girl to sexy hottie in the new R-rated movie “Spring Breakers” to be released in the United States on March 22. Hudgens' role in :Sping Breakers" and one of her recent films “Sucker Punch” have been a breakaway from the Disney goody girl image that she has been known for, according to the news site Huffington Post. Hudgens explained that she wants to be remembered not as the girl from the "High School Musical" Disney television series and movies but as "an actress they admire." In her new movie, she said she is looking for a reaction and wants to "shock people." The film is about how four college girls lose their innocence and get engulfed in the world of drugs and other human vices. She hopes the new movie will be her stepping stone to land more mature roles. Hudgens, 24 will be starring in the drug fueled film along with co-Disney star Selena Gomez, 20, who is also trying to cast aside her naive girl image. On a New York Times article, Hudgens described "Spring Breakers" as an amazing opportunity for her and Gomez, adding “Selena and I are both young, finding our footing, wanting to grow.” Meanwhile, Gomez said she's never been part of a movie that she enjoys watching over and over again. "I’m really proud of it,” she told the New York Times. Proud to be Pinoy In an earlier Asian Journal report, Hudgens mentioned how she was proud to be a Filipino. She said she was happy to see more Fil-Ams in the Hollywood acting industry. “I’m so glad in being part of a group. It’s amazing whenever I meet fellow Filipinos, no matter if they are in the business or not, there’s already an instant connection and bond together,” she told the Asian Journal. Hudgens, whose mother is a Filipina, said she would like to visit the Philippines but could not at the moment because of her hectic schedule. Her mom herself has been unable to go back to the Philippines "since she married my father and that was like 25 years ago, so she’s long overdue,” Hudgens said. Still, she thanks her Filipino fans and expresses her desire to meet them in her mom's homeland. “Salamat po for being so amazing and thank you guys and hopefully, I’ll be able to see you in the Philippines,” she said in the report. - Andrei Medina, VVP, GMA News
