Microsoft rolls out 7 security updates for software products
Users of computers running Microsoft's Windows OS – and even Apple's MacOS – may have to brace for seven security patches the software giant rolled out Wednesday (Manila time). Four of the seven patches have been rated as "critical" while three address bugs that may allow remote code execution according to a blog post by security vendor Sophos. "Of the four critical holes, the vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer, Silverlight and SharePoint are what might be called click-to-own bugs. That means that simply browsing to a malicious web page could be enough to let an attacker exploit the vulnerability and gain control of your computer," it warned. A fourth patch deemed "critical" targets a flaw in Microsoft's Visio where one can be attacked if one opens a malevolent Visio file. The three others patch bugs in OneNote, Office for Mac, and kernel drivers, Sophos said. Sophos advised users to install these patches soonest. "This month, as with every Patch Tuesday, the longer you wait to apply the security patches, the more time attackers will have to finesse, and launch, their attacks. So don't delay: patch as soon as possible," it said. — LBG, GMA News
