Web-savvy toaster prints images on your daily bread

What do you get when you cross a toaster and the Internet? A random image from the Internet printed on your slice of bread, of course.

That's the idea behind the Image Toaster, which Scott van Haastrecht built as a project for a Creative Technology course.

"The Image Toaster will search the Internet for images related to the day's date and will toast it on your bread. This is still a prototype that I created for the Creative Technology course 'Innovation Lab' in University," he said on the CargoCollective.com site.

He said he hit on the idea when he got bored with having a plain slice of bread for breakfast, and "needed something in the morning that would surprise me."

Van Haastrecht said he got inspiration from the hidden face of Jesus on a slice of toasted bread and other porjects "where hey use a template to mask out an image."

For now, he said the toaster needs to be plugged into a computer to get connected to the Internet, search for a random Google image, and print it on the bread.

A future version may soon connect to the Internet via wifi, he hinted.

"Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. You want to start off your morning well-fed and inspired, and what better way to do that than with a daily surprise in your food?" he said.

A separate article on Mashable said the smart toaster uses a grid to determine which parts to toast, but is still a prototype. — TJD, GMA News
