Microsoft may be planning an event in May to debut its next-generation Xbox gaming console, a tech site reported late Monday.
The Verge said this was a change of plans for Microsoft, which it said had originally planned to introduce the new Xbox this month.
"Sources familiar with Microsoft's Xbox plans have revealed that the event will be at a small venue with a focus on providing the very first details on the next Xbox, codenamed Durango, and Microsoft's plans for Xbox in 2013," it said.
It also cited recent rumors that the upcoming Xbox may require an always-on Internet connection.
The Verge noted that while Microsoft had apologized for comments by Microsoft Studios creative director Adam Orth about always-on rumors, the software giant "has reminded employees that any communications about the next-generation Xbox must remain confidential."
On the other hand, The Verge said a full unveiling of the next Xbox is due at E3 in early June.
"We understand that the next-generation Xbox software will be based on Windows 8, feeding into Microsoft's strategy of placing Windows at the heart of its products and services," it said. — TJD, GMA News
