NBA: Doug Collins will not return to coach Philly next season - Yahoo Sports
Philadelphia 76ers head coach Doug Collins will not return to the sidelines next season, Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarwoski reported, citing league sources.
Collins, who this season is 33-47 with the 76ers, ninth in the Eastern Conference, had one more year left on his deal.
Since taking on the head coaching job, Collins has led Philadelphia to two playoffs berths, losing in the first round in 2010-11 (41-41 regular season record, lost 4-1 to Miami), and in the conference semifinals during the lockout-shortened 2011-12 season (35-31, won 4-2 to Chicago, lost 4-3 to Boston).
This season however has been disastrous. An offseason trade had the team looking like a playoffs contender on paper, with the acquisition of veteran shooting guard Jason Richardson, and center Andrew Bynum.
Bynum however, never played a single game for the 76ers, while Richardson appeared in just 33 contests, as both were hobbled by knee injuries. - AMD, GMA News
