INC endorses 7 Team PNoy, 5 UNA Senate bets

May 9, 2013 5:49pm

The Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) is endorsing the candidacy of seven senatorial candidates from Team PNoy and five from the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), a sample ballot from the bloc-voting religious organization showed.

According to the sample ballot shown to GMA News, INC is endorsing the candidacy of Team PNoy bets Aurora Rep. Sonny Angara; Bam Aquino; re-electionist Senators Alan Peter Cayetano, Loren Legarda, and Antonio Trillanes IV; former MTRCB chair Grace Poe; and former Las Piñas Rep. Cynthia Villar.

On the other hand, the UNA bets endorsed by the group are Nancy Binay, San Juan Rep. JV Ejercito, Cagayan Rep. Jack Enrile, former Sen. Richard Gordon, and re-electionist Sen. Gregorio Honasan.

All the candidates mentioned in the ballot have been performing well in the surveys of both the Social Weather Stations and Pulse Asia.

Re-electionist senators Francis Escudero and Koko Pimentel, two candidates from Team Pnoy who have consistently rated high in both surveys, did not make it to the INC list.

Meanwhile the religious group Kingdom of Jesus Christ founded by Pastor Apollo Quiboloy has also named the senate candidates they are endorsing, said a television report aired on GMA 7’s “24 Oras.”

Six from Team PNoy snagged KJC’s nod including Angara, Aquino, Escudero, Legarda, Poe and Villar. Five candidates from UNA were also endorsed, namely: Binay, Ejercito, Enrile, Gordon and Miguel Zubiri. They also recommended independent candidate Edward Hagedorn.

According to the report, KJC chose their candidate based on the candidate’s platform concerning the environment.

The former defense secretary, however, only placed fourth among nine candidates.

Earlier in the day, political analyst Mon Casiple said "unsafe" Senate bets can only rely on bloc votes like that of INC to win. Among the "unsafe bets" who were endorsed by the INC are Angara, Trillanes, Honasan, and Enrile.

The INC has an estimated 5 to 8 million votes out of 52 million registered voters nationwide.

The Catholic-backed White Vote Movement and pro-RH Purple Vote had earlier endorsed their own candidates. Rouchelle R. Dinglasan and Kimberly Jane Tan/DVM/KBK, GMA News
