Make way for the world's first liquid-cooled smartphone

If avid gamers can rig liquid cooling systems to keep their machines from overheating, why can't heavy-duty smartphone users enjoy a similar feature?

NEC installed a liquid cooling pipe that draws heat away from the processor in its Medias X 06E, tech site Mashable reported.

"While liquid-cooling systems for high-end computers are becoming more commonplace, having one inside a phone — especially a phone running a 1.7 GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor found in many other smartphones — seems a little like overkill," Mashable said.

Yet, it said this could set a precedent for other smartphones and mobile devices if the setup succeeds.

Liquid cooling in larger PC rigs is a quieter alternative to the air-cooled version, whose fans may generate much noise.

Other features of the new phone include a 4.7-inch OLED screen and a 13.1-megapixel camera.

The phone could be available in Japan on the NTT Docomo carrier in June. — TJD, GMA News
