(Updated 7:41pm) Tony Johnson opened ONE FC: Rise to Power with a technical knockout victory over the veteran Tim Sylvia, Friday at the SM MOA Arena.
The first two rounds of the fight turned out the same with Johnson shooting for takedowns and Sylvia sprawling to avoid them.
Sylvia was able to sneak in successive short punches early in the third round but Johnson scored on a big takedown. The much younger Johnson then opened a cut on Sylvia's eyebrow with a shard elbow. The cut was so deep that it prompted the doctor to stop the fight
"Tim's a tough guy but he came in overweight so I tried to take him down from the start," said Johnson after the fight. "I was out of action for 18 months so there's a bit of ring rust but I'll be better next time."
In the second fight, Lowen Tynanes, the last fighter to defeat Eduard Folayang, needed less than a round to finish off Felipe Enomoto of Japan.
Tynanes quickly took down Enomoto and trapped him with a mounted crucifix. Tynanes then rained down on elbows and punches to finish the fight.
The night's third bout saw Yusup Saadulaev choke out Ryan Diaz in the second round.
Diaz came out firing in the first with leg and head kicks. In the second round, Diaz tried to trip Saadulaev but he ended up giving his back. Saadulaev transitioned to a mount, then went for a beautiful D'Arce choke to make Diaz tap out. - AMD, GMA News
