Host team Adamson University Soaring Falcons and PCCL titlists University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers look to start the season with back-to-back wins when they clash against each other on Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

In their first assignment of Season 76, Adamson pulled away quarter-by-quarter from the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons before winning 79-67, after breaking the game wide open in the third period. That was when center Ingrid Sewa flexed his muscles to the tune of 11 points on a perfect 5-for-5 shooting clip and six rebounds.

Helping Sewa out were gunners Jericho Cruz (19 points, six rebounds, three steals) and Roider Cabrera (11 points, nine rebounds), but it was a total team effort, especially in the light of a death in the family of starting point guard Ryan Monteclaro. With him playing just one minute, Ar-raouf Julkipli and Accel Inigo got the bulk of the point guard duties. And while the team turned the ball over 25 times, they only gave up nine turnover points to their foes, four less than what Adamson themselves scored.

Things were more dramatic on the other hand for the UST Growling Tigers, as what started as a low-scoring affair became extremely tense late thanks to an overtime-forcing basket by DLSU Green Archer Jason Perkins, 51-all. In the extra period though, mainstays Karim Abdul and Jeric Teng scored nine of their side's first 12 points, before Aljon Mariano connected on dagger charities, to clinch the 63-58 triumph.

Only Teng and Abdul managed to finish in double-digit scoring, and so the team hopes the likes of Clark Bautista, Kevin Ferrer, and Mariano catch fire in this one. The Tigers managed to win despite connecting on none of their 13 triple tries, and it's possibly the Falcons will test their long-range capabilities early, to see if the UST is still cold from distance.

Game starts at 2pm.
