At least three people were killed while three were injured after a speeding sport-utility vehicle crashed along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City before dawn Sunday.

The SUV mowed down the three fatalities—a balut vendor and her customers, radio dzBB's Roland Bola reported.

Rescue teams managed to extricate the driver and two passengers of the Montero-type vehicle after several minutes, the report said.

Killed were the balut vendor initially identified as Liza Romero and a customer identified as Julie Montefalco. The third fatality, a male, was not immediately identified.

Police said the accident occurred at the corner of Commonwealth Avenue and Katuparan Street at about 3 a.m.

Initial investigation showed the Montero-type vehicle (TZI-993) was speeding when it crashed and hit the victims.

Traffic police are verifying witnesses' claims the SUV was racing with another vehicle before it figured in the accident.
