The Adamson University Soaring Falcons will try to arrest their four-game losing skid, while the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles endeavor to make it four wins in a row, in round two's avian battle, Sunday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Round one encounter

It took four games, but the Ateneo Blue Eagles finally picked up their first win of the season, trouncing the Adamson Falcons 71-59 last July 14.

Slowly but surely, the defending UAAP champs pulled away, building on a 32-28 halftime lead to go up by 10 after the penultimate period, 57-47, en route to the final score.

That said, making things easier for the Eagles was the fact that Adamson center Ingrid Sewa suffered a shoulder injury in the game, limiting him to just 23 minutes, four points and 10 rebounds.

ADU outlook

After getting hurt versus ADMU and playing limited minutes in their next game against the NU Bulldogs, Ingrid Sewa just hasn't been the same player. Through his side's first three matches, Sewa put up a mighty 14.33 points and 10.33 rebounds. During Adamson's recent four-game losing streak though, his numbers have plummeted to seven points and seven rebounds. Through a combination of his teammates not getting him the ball and defenses doing a good job of denying him his touches, the Cameroonian just hasn't been effective, and it's effects are undeniable.

Things might get easier for him versus Ateneo's frontline of Frank Golla and JP Erram, but if the Eagles are able to swarm him and deny him touches in the post, Sewa's dry spell could last at least one more game.

ADMU outlook

The Blue Eagles have put together a three-game win streak, although two of those victories came against league doormats UP. That at least has allowed "Phenom" Kiefer Ravena to slowly find his groove, after injuring his ankle prior to the start of the season. In their recent run of success, Ravena has normed 14.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.67 steals, none too shabby.

However, one thing he might want to consider cutting down on is his number of three-point attempts. He's just 3-of-16 in that same stretch, norming 5.33 attempts per game, and with guys like Juami Tiongson (37.2 percent) and Von Pessumal (31.8 percent) on the wings, the Eagles might be better served by Ravena taking on the role of playmaker, attracting the defense, and then dishing to his snipers, as opposed to taking the shots himself.
