Facebook tests LinkedIn-like section to user profiles

Facebook has apparently taken a page from professional social network LinkedIn, testing a new "Professional Skills" section to users' accounts, several tech sites reported.

A report on Sociobits.org
said this could let jobseekers find work opportunities using Facebook, the world's biggest social network.

"Today I noticed a new option on Facebook's 'About' section which lets you to add your skills on your profile. I think it should very beneficial to job seekers, by adding your professional skills on your account, the chances of getting hired will increase," the site's report said.

"The new feature is an obvious copy from LinkedIn, it has the feature since 2011. Apart from skills, LinkedIn allows to add a section that highlights languages, patents, certifications and publications etc.," it added.

A separate report on The Next Web said a Facebook spokesperson confirmed the social network is "testing" such a feature.

“We are currently testing a new option where you can add your professional skills to the work and education section of your timeline,” their report said.

Sociobits.org said the "Professional Skills" option can be found under the "Work and Education" section.

It said this allows users to add multiple abilities in their timeline.

Meanwhile, The Next Web said Facebook appears to be further leveraging social connections to find jobs.

"To be fair, LinkedIn has had this feature for some time, but currently on your profile, those interests are not actionable — meaning it won’t take you to view other users with similar tastes. Also, if you run a search, it will only allow you to look for people, jobs, companies, groups, universities, and what’s in your inbox, not by interest," it added. - AMD, GMA News
