Google Keep hints at Google drive integration, vid playback
Google Keep, the internet giant's answer to the Evernote app, may soon get new features including integration with Google Drive and support for video playback, a tech enthusiast's blog said over the weekend.
Alex Chitu of the "Google Operating System" blog cited lines of code in Google Keep that hinted at such new features.
"[The] code includes multiple references to an upcoming feature that lets you upload any file to Google Drive and add it to a note, preview the file using the Google Drive Viewer or open it using various apps. You'll also be able to add videos (YouTube URLs or videos uploaded to Google Drive) and play them inside Google Keep," Chitu said.
Presently, he said Keep is "pretty basic," with users able only to "insert images and save audio files when using the dictation feature from the mobile app."
He said he hopes Keep may become a Google Drive app and "you'll be able to open and edit your notes from Google Drive."
A separate report on The Next Web said the code indicated a future integration that allows uploading of files to Drive and adding them to a note.
"The code suggests that you’ll be able to preview files from Keep using the Google Drive viewer and other apps," it added.
With such an integration of Google Docs into Drive, it said Keep is likely to become a part of the cloud storage system "to let users more easily manage their notes."
The Next Web added that while Keep has fewer features than Evernote, that simplicity "makes it pleasant for storing to-do lists, shopping lists, memory aids and other essentials."
"However, the lack of an iOS app means it’s only really useful for Android and Chrome users, at this point," it added. – KDM, GMA News
