iOS7 lock screen flaw found in latest update
Another update, another flaw found.
This seems to be the case yet again with iOS 7, Apple's latest operating system for mobile devices like the iPhone and the iPad.
Enthusiast site iDownloadBlog.com said the latest bug was found in iOS 7.0.2, the latest update Apple had rolled out to squash the pesky lockscreen bug.
"If there’s one bright spot about this latest vulnerability, it is that it doesn’t expose anything outside of the Phone app to would be snoopers, and you can nix the bug by disabling Siri access from the Lock screen. Still, Apple’s security team can’t be happy about this," it said.
The site cited one Dany Lisiansky, who posted the steps on a YouTube video, adding it had verified the steps and they "do work."
It said one can trigger the bug by making a phone call with Siri or Voice Control; clicking the FaceTime button; clicking the Sleep button; unlocking the iPhone; answering and ending the FaceTime call at the other end; wait a few seconds; and getting into the phone app.
"While it’s true that you can only use Siri to dial contacts, this bug allows anyone to see your entire list of contacts, your call history, even your voicemail," it said.
Another enthusiast site, CultofMac.com, voiced concern over the bug.
"While it’s not the easiest lock screen hack to perform, then, it’s still a concerning one. But if Apple’s last update is anything to go by, it’s likely this vulnerability will be fixed fairly soon. In the meantime, you can eliminate any risk on your own device by disabling access to Siri from the lock screen," it added. - ELR, GMA News
