Facebook users warned vs new leaked snapchat scam

Users of social networking giant Facebook were warned over the weekend against a new cyberscam claiming to offer so-called leaked shots posted on Snapchat.

 

Security vendor Bitdefender said users are redirected to a fake Facebook login page where they are asked to enter their credentials.

 

"Usernames and passwords are automatically gathered in a scammers’ data base through a server they remotely control," Bitdefender said.

 

"We also advise users to avoid joining Facebook communities titled ‘LEAKED SNAPCHAT 18+.’ They rarely deliver what they offer," it added.

 

Snapchat is popular among Internet users, especially teenagers, due to its feature that allows them to send pictures and videos that self-destruct after a few seconds.

 

In the meantime, Bitdefender advises users to be "careful when they log in to their social media accounts."

 

Bitdefender particularly urged them to type the web address directly in the browser and not use the same passwords on multiple services.

 

Also, it advised them to enable two-factor authentication and have an up-to-date security solution.

 

Bitdefender cited an article on "Spyware Sucks" indicating almost 800,000 users had been invited to check out the tempting.

 

On the other hand, it said the Snapchat scams started in December 2013 when security experts warned of a website called leaked-snapchatz.com.

 

When Google and antivirus solutions blocked that site, a new one was created on an .org domain, which Google eventually marked as scammy.  — ELR, GMA News
