Ruben Gonzales quickly avenged PJ Tierro's opening day loss, disposing of Dineshkanthan Thangarajah, 6-3 6-3 6-0, to end the opening day action in the 2014 Davis Cup Group II Asia/Oceania competition in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

It is Gonzales' sixth win in seven outings for the Philippines, following successful campaigns against Syria and Thailand in 2013. Gonzales split his matches in the GroupII Asia/Oceania final in September against New Zealand, losing against Michael Venus before winning against Jose Statham.

Still to compete are Johnny Arcilla and Treat Huey, who will play the doubles match against Harshana Godamanna and Rajeev Rajapakse on Saturday. Godamanna will play Gonzales in the third singles game on Sunday, while Tierro will try to recover from his loss with a showdown against Thangarajah. - GMA News
