Next Android version: 'Lemon Meringue Pie'?

Will "L" stand for "lemon meringue pie" in the next version of Google's Android mobile operating system?

Enthusiast site Android Police cited a tip from a reader and its own research indicating several clues from software development kits (SDKs).

It said extracts from the Android SDK mention "lmp-preview-release" while a search for "lmp" on the Android Open Source Project repository will get some hits.

Yet, it said there is still a chance LMP may not be the final name for the next version of Android, noting the last time with "K," which was nicknamed KitKat.

It said Android 4.4 was known as "KLP" or Key Lime Pie in internal documents until Google announced its promotion with Nestle's KitKat chocolate bars.

"Whether or not Google will pull another switcheroo (and presumably piss off all its developers and engineers) we couldn't say. The people who make Lifesavers are probably waiting by the phone," Android Police said. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
