UAAP: Belo hits late jumper as Tams survive UP

The UP Fighting Maroons looked to upset the league-leading FEU Tamaraws before losing steam in the final minutes, 75-69, on Saturday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

FEU held on to a two-point lead heading into the final three minutes of the game, as Mike Tolomia sat down after five fouls. A Diego Dario triple shoved UP ahead entering the final two minutes, but Achie Inigo responded with his own long bomb at the other end for a 71-69 Tamaraw lead.

Dave Moralde went for a wild drive resulting to nothing, while Mac Belo pulled up at the other end for some separation. An FEU offensive board led to freethrows from Inigo with 35 ticks to go to seal the Tamaraw victory.

Thw two teams were tangled up in the first two quarters, as JR Gallarza put on a perfect show. Gallarza had 15 points with a 3 for 3 clip form deep, while Mikee Reyes strung eight off the bench. Mike Tolimia led FEU with 11 markers, while Roger Pogoy and Anthony Hargrove chipped in six each.

The game featured seven deadlocks and 12 lead changes, with FEU pummeling UP in the paint, 32-16. UP responded with makes from the perimeter, besting FEU, 40-26.

Tolimia totaled 19 point with five boards and one assist in almost 24 minutes of play. May Belo added 14 total, going 5 of 10 form the field with seven rebounds and three assists. Anthony Hargrove and Achie Inigo added 11 and eight, respectively.

Gallarza finished the game with 18 points and five rebounds while Mikee Reyes had 14. Diego Dario pitched in 10.- GMA News
