UAAP: Eagles triumph over Ferrer-less Tigers

Kiefer Ravena had 23 points along with 13 rebounds to lead the Ateneo Blue Eagles past the UST Growling Tigers, 69-58, on Saturday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

Ravena added six assists and three steals in another all around game, while Chris Newsome tallied 14 points with nine boards and three assists. Nico Elorde also had a solid outing with seven points and five boards, while undersized big man John Apacible had an efficient outing with seven points and two rebounds, shadowing UST big man Karim Abdul at the low block.

Apart from UST leading 3-0 in the opening quarter, Ateneo was ahead the rest of the game. The Tigers fared fairly better from the field with a 23 of 55 shooting clip for 41 percent, while Ateneo settled for 39 percent after connecting on 23 of 59 attempts. The Eagles milked the charity stripe for 19 big points, though, coming off 27 tries. In contrast, UST struggled from the line, connecting on just nine of 18 attempts.

Karim Abdul led UST with 17 points and 13 boards. Louie Vigil and Aljon Mariano had 14 and 12 points, respectively, combining for eight rebounds. - GMA News
