Cebu residents worried over sinkhole
Residents of Cebu province are worried over a newly formed sinkhole in Badian town, which was formed amid heavy rain Thursday morning.
Some of the residents said the sinkhole at Sitio Curvada appeared to be growing bigger and deeper, GMA Cebu's Chona Carreon reported on Friday.
On the other hand, even if local authorities set a police line around the sinkhole, many people still milled around to look at it.
For her part, caretaker Cristie Mayormita recalled hearing an unusual sound. Residents thought at first that it was the sound of thunder.
The area where the sinkhole formed had been planted to corn.
As of Friday, it measured 12 meters in diameter and was 30 meters deep.
Meanwhile, local residents said they are ready to move to safer ground even as the Department of Environment and Natural Resource said the sinkhole appeared to be growing.
The DENR advised residents to stay 70 meters away from the sinkhole. — Joel Locsin /LBG, GMA News
