Intel to power Google Glass in 2015
Google's Glass wearable tech is coming back in 2015, and it promises to be more powerful with an Intel processor inside.
A report on The Wall Street Journal quoted people familiar with the matter as saying the brains of the new Google Glass will sport the Intel brand.
The WSJ report, which is behind a subscription wall, added this is part of a push by Intel into wearable technology.
A separate report on tech site The Verge, which cited excerpts from the WSJ report, said the new Glass promises longer battery life than the present Explorer Edition.
It noted the limited battery life and high "four-figure price tag" had hampered the adoption of Glass.
"With a more modern processor and a refreshed design, it could see consumer interest rekindled, though Intel seems more interested in promoting Glass as a workplace companion," it said.
However, it also noted the WSJ report indicated the Google-Intel partnership may involve marketing Glass to "hospital networks and manufacturers, while developing new workplace uses for the device."
On the other hand, a separate report on Forbes.com noted the present Glass uses Texas Instruments processor. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
