PAGASA reminds public to prepare for more storms before yearend

There's a light at the end of this tunnel, but the year isn't over yet.

In response to questions from the public, PAGASA forecasters admitted that they are currently monitoring a weather system developing far out in the Pacific.

PAGASA assured, however, that the system is still too weak and too far away to be of any immediate concern.

According to I M Ready group head, Dr. CP David, the weather system is visible via satellite image, but it remains to be seen whether or not it will develop into a typhoon.

Average storms per year

Some 20 typhoons enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility per year, and Ruby is the 18th to do so in 2014.

"Mga isa o dalawang bagyo pa ang pwedeng pumasok sa bansa this December," according to PAGASA.

In 2013, the Philippines was hit by 25 typhoons. In the past 20 years, the average number of typhoons that enter the PAR has been 15-20 per year. Out of that, around 11 typhoons per year make landfall, the majority of them hitting Luzon.

PAGASA also added that the number of typhoons usually experienced during the December is typically low. — TJD, GMA News
