Militant farmers on Thursday started their commemoration of the 28th anniversary of the Mendiola Massacre with a march to President Benigno Aquino III's neighborhood in Quezon City.
But police managed to prevent the farmers from getting near Aquino's house along Times Street, radio dzBB's Allan Gatus reported.
A photo posted on Twitter showed the militants carrying placards calling for true agrarian reform, but blocked by a police barricade.

The massacre in 1987 occurred at Mendiola near Malacañang, during a violent dispersal of a march by farmers seeking agrarian reform. At least 13 farmers died during the incident.
It occurred during the presidency of Aquino's late mother Corazon.
