With Facebook, Instagram down, users take to Twitter to complain

Social networking sites Facebook and Instagram seemed to be inaccessible on Tuesday afternoon, sending users to wonder about the glitch on Twitter.

Both websites are part of the same company after Facebook acquired the photo-sharing site in 2012.

Instagram posted a message on Twitter acknowledging the outage.

We're aware of an outage affecting Instagram and are working on a fix. Thank you for your patience.

The #facebookdown trended on Twitter shortly after both sites went down as users turned to the micro-blogging site to tweet about the error.
