2 Pinoy nurses caught in sex act in US plead guilty

The two male Filipino nurses arrested in 2014 for alleged sexual misconduct have pleaded guilty to a felony charge of inflicting mental suffering on an elder.

The two were arrested and charged after they were caught on video engaging in a sex act with each other while taking care of a 99-year-old patient in 2011.

A report on San Diego 6 on Monday that the two—Russel Torralba, 42, and Alfredo Ruiz, 43—face sentencing on March 30.

Judge Lorna Alksne, however, dismissed one count of lewd and lascivious behavior filed against them, although she described their behavior as “shocking,” the San Diego 6 report said.

During a preliminary hearing in 2013, counsel for the defendants tried to argue that the patient, a female stroke victim, was not neglected and might not have been aware of the nurses' actions.

In 2011, both nurses were caught on video performing a sex act while inside the victim's room while touching the female patient. Non-verbal cues from the patient had prompted her family to review footage from security cameras.

Torralba and Ruiz's licenses have already been revoked following the incident. —Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News
