Turin shroud replica featured in Good Friday procession in Iloilo
A replica of the Shroud of Turin, which was believed used to wrap the body of the crucified Christ, will be featured in this year's Good Friday procession in Molo, Iloilo City.
Fr. Espiridion Celis said the replica of the shroud would make this year's procession more meaningful for the parishioners, GMA Iloilo reported.
"A memorable Holy Week. A Holy Week that you will put in your scrapbook and say 'I was there ... That was the day we celebrated it'," Celis said.
The parish acquired a replica of the shroud after Celis befriended the shroud's official photographer.
Presently, the replica shroud can be seen in the local church.
A separate report on GMA News TV's "Balitanghali" on Wednesday said many believe the replica to have miraculous powers.
Yet Celis maintained their faith does not depend on this cloth.
"Our faith does not depend on this cloth. Our faith depends on God. But if this can help our brothers and sisters, and a lot of them have been helped already," he said. — Joel Locsin/BM, GMA News
