With Moala Tautuaa and Troy Rosario already locked in as the top two picks in the PBA rookie draft, the surprises started at the third pick overall with Rain or Shine as Coach Yeng Guiao selected Filipino-American guard Maverick Ahanmisi, stunning the Robinsons Place Manila crowd on Sunday.

"What I've been told is around seven or nine so it was a shock for me," the 24-year-old said. "I'm sure my agent is pretty shocked too that I'm picked no. 3."

Ahanmisi, who played for the University of Minnesota in the United States and served the Cafe France Bakers in the PBA D-League, said he was glad the Elasto Painters picked him.

"I know that they're a good team. I watch Paul Lee all the time," he said. "I can learn from him and coach Yeng, his style of play."

"I'm blessed to have him as my coach," he added about the RoS mentor.

Rain or Shine also picked Josan Nimes at 12th overall, and dropped another shocker by drafting Adamson University's Don Trollano at 15th overall in the second round.

The Elasto Painters also selected Filipino-American guard Simon Enciso at 17th overall. - RAF, GMA News
