Ateneo confirms Blue Eagles player was involved in viral drunk video

(Updated 10:55pm) Ateneo De Manila University has released a statement addressing Blue Eagles forward John Apacible's involvement in a video that went viral on social media.

 

In its statement, the school confirmed that it was indeed the player who was caught in drunk misbehavior in the video.

 

"It has come to our attention that John Apacible, a member of the Ateneo Blue Eagles, behaved in an unacceptable manner during an early Sunday morning encounter," said Ateneo University Athletics Office's Emmanuel Fernandez in a statement on Monday. "John deeply regrets his reprehensible behavior and sincerely apologizes to all parties concerned.

 

"Rest assured that the Blue Eagles Team Management as well as the Loyola Schools will deal with this regrettable incident approproately and swiftly." 

 

Apacible, a second year player, was caught on the video posted on Saturday by a certain Yan Bote.

 

"Along Timog ave QC. Plate number ACA 7111. Lasing na lasing yung driver tapos nanggulpi ng driver ng delivery van at nanghampas ng dumadaang kotse tapos nanggigitgit ng mga sasakyan. 12am nangyari kanina lang. Di man lang hinuli ng mga pulis. Hinayaan pa magdrive kahit lasing at may mga nagrereklamo dun," wrote Bote in the caption.

 

The video showed Apacible raising a "councilor" plate while challenging an unidentified man to a fistfight.

 

"[Expletive] ikaw yung angas kanina. Sapakan tayo," said Apacible while pointing to his councilor license plate. "Councilor 'to."

 

"Lasing na lasing o. Pagda-driving niyo pa yan?" asked the man complaining about Apacible in the video.

 

"Suntukan tayong dalawa," the Ateneo forward added while charging towards the man taking the video. Two policemen were seen unable to restrain Apacible.

Blue Eagles team manager Epok Quimpo also released a statement through Ateneo' school paper The Guidon on Sunday:

"John made a mistake and it will not be tolerated. This is his own doing which will result to disciplinary actions: 1) He will face game suspensions. 2) He will not be allowed to practice.

"John apologized to the whole team including the coaching staff and management. His teammates will be supporting him through this trying time, more so in the faith that he will become a better Atenean. CURA PERSONALIS."  —JST, GMA News
