Of Monsters and Men is composed of lead vocalist and guitarist Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir, co-singer and guitarist Ragnar Þórhallsson, guitarist Brynjar Leifsson, drummer Arnar Rósenkranz Hilmarsson, and bassist Kristján Páll Kristjánsson. In 2010, the group won an annual Icelandic battle of the bands, which kicked off its nationwide and international fame. The group released its debut full-length album, "My Head is an Animal" in 2011.

"Dreamy, simple, minimalist folk serves as the foundation for My Head Is an Animal: It's simple and effective, allowing the focus to remain on the entrancing vocal harmonies," National Public Radio described the band's debut album.

Of Monsters and Men released its second studio album, "Beneath the Skin," in June 2015.
