Why Pia Wurtzbach won, according to Miss Universe judge Perez Hilton
Miss Universe judge Perez Hilton did not mince his words in the post-Miss Universe 2015 coronation night podcast he did with Chris Booker.
Without meaning to offend anyone, the celebrity blogger stated that it became clear to him as the pageant progressed that Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach truly deserved the crown.
To put it simply, Perez said: "Miss Philippines came to win, Miss Colombia came to lose."
He explained that although Miss Colombia Ariadna María Gutiérrez Arévalo's confidence could be seen as intoxicating and sexy, the beauty queen "came there as if she already won."
"I think she (Colombia) truly believed she was going to win. Whereas Miss Philippines came with something to prove," Perez said.
The judge even extended high praise for Pia Wurtzbach's answers for both interview questions, without forgetting that it is primarily a beauty pageant.
Up until the evening gown portion, Perez actually felt like Miss Colombia was going to go home with the crown.
To his surprise, Pia put up a fight.
"I wasn't expecting much of Philippines from her swimsuit portion, so I had already in my mind thought she would not be that good—but then she came out and like boom! Gave me fierceness!" said Perez.
"She owned it!"
He later found out that the vote was unanimous, with all four judges voting Miss Philippines as Miss Universe.
"Miss Philippines is fierce," he quipped, "She won fair and square." —Aya Tantiangco/JST, GMA News
