Honor Thy Father disqualification a dishonor to the industry —DGPI
Nagpaabot ng mensahe ang pangulo ng Directors' Guild of the Philippines, Inc. (DGPI) na si Mike Sandejas sa executive committee the Metro manila Film Festival 2015 kaugnay ng disqualification ng pelikulang "Honor Thy Father" sa Best Picture Category ng Metro Manila Film Festival Awards 2015.
Sa isang open letter, sinabi ni Sandejas na kinokondena ng kanilang grupo ang desisyon ng MMFF 2015 executive committee dahil naniniwala silang hindi ito dumaan sa maayos na proseso.
Naghain rin sila ng maraming tanong sa mga bumubuo ng nasabing film festival, kabilang na ang "Since MMFF already knew of the opening film screening of CinemaOneOriginals, why wasn't it disqualified early on? And why was the disqualification declared only a day before the awards night?"
Naniniwala umano ang DGPI na hindi naging patas ang desisyon na i-disqualify ang pelikula sa nasabing kategorya.
Hinikayat ni Sandejas ang lahat ng mga bahagi ng industriya ng pelikula, lalong-lalo na ang mga nakabilang sa MMFF 2015, na magkaisa sa pagkondena sa lahat ng uri ng kawalan ng katarungan na nagaganap sa film festival.
Pagtatapos niya, "The DGPI stands against arbitrary and unfair practices in the MMFF; we demand fair play, we demand transparency, and we demand change."
Nakatakdang maghain ng resolusyon ngayong araw ang kampo ng "Honor Thy Father" sa pangunguna ng producer na si Dondon Monteverde at ni Rep. Dan Fernandez sa House of Representatives upang imbestigahan ang desisyon ng MMFF na i-disqualify ang pelikula sa Best Picture category ng MMFF Awards ngayong taon.
Sa naunang pahayag, iginiit ni Monteverde na wala silang nilabag na patakaran ng MMFF at hindi rin umano totoo ang sinasabing non-disclosure ng pagkakabilang nila sa CinemaOne Originals nitong Nobyembre, na siyang itinuturong dahilan ng disqualification.
Dagdag pa niya, hindi raw nabigyan ng pagkakataong magbigay ng pahayag ang kanilang kampo.
Aniya, "I am questioning the reasons, the timing, and the means employed in enforcing this decision by the MMFF Executive Committee. Where is due process in all of this? We were merely informed of their decision, not given any opportunity to air our side. They sent the letter today. The awarding ceremony is tomorrow."
"Are they merely being good scouts and sticklers for the rules, even when no rule was broken? Or is there some other reason? Why disqualify the movie only from the Best Picture category and not all categories? Whose interests are being protected by this last-minute decision?" dagdag pa ng producer.
Naganap ang Metro Manila Film Festival 2015 Awards Night nitong Linggo, kung saan nagwagi bilang Best Director si Erik Matti para sa "Honor Thy Father," at nagwagi naman bilang Best Supporting Actor si Tirso Cruz III at Best Child Performer si Krystal Brimner para sa parehong pelikula.
Nakuha rin ng pelikula ang pagkilalang Best Make-Up at Best Original Theme Song, na gawa ng "Up Dharma Down" vocalist na si Armi Millare. —Bianca Rose Dabu/NB, GMA News
