Roxas confirms attendance at Robredo inauguration
Former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas will attend the inauguration of Vice President-elect Leni Robredo, his running mate in the May polls.
Roxas, the Liberal Party's standard-bearer in the recent elections, confirmed this in an interview on Tuesday afternoon at the sidelines of Cebu City officials' oath-taking, which Robredo administered.
"Oo naman," he replied when asked if he will be present at her inauguration on Thursday morning.
The administration's presidential bet, who placed second to President-elect Rodrigo Duterte, has been on a "thank-you" tour across Visayas the past couple of weeks.
"Nagpapahinga lang tayo. Minarapat ko na sa abot ng aking makakaya ay pumunta sa iba't ibang bahagi ng bansa para magpasalamat nang personal sa ating mga kababayan na tumangkilik, sumuporta, at bumoto sa akin at sa aking running-mate na si Leni. Natutuwa ako na nanalo si Leni," he said.
Robredo will be sworn in to her new post via a separate inauguration that will start 9 a.m. Thursday at the Quezon City Reception House, where the Office of the Vice President will be located.
The "simple" event is limited to around 300 guests, including family, friends, and representatives from sectors she worked with as a lawyer and congresswoman.
The family of outgoing President Benigno Aquino III will be represented by his youngest sister, actress-host Kris Aquino, who was the top donor to Robredo's campaign.
The outgoing President's other sisters, who will be preparing for his homecoming in the morning, are expected to join Robredo's thanksgiving party at the Quezon City Memorial Circle in the afternoon. —JST, GMA News
