#HindiTama: Sites claim former President Ramos tested positive for drugs, died in hospital

#HindiTama is an initiative of GMA News Online to shed light on viral hoaxes and misinformation on the web.

Former president Fidel V. Ramos was reportedly rushed to an undisclosed hospital in Germany on Tuesday where, according to unnamed sources, he tested positive for drugs and subsequently died late Thursday.

The spurious report was carried by websites aljazeera-tv.com, bbc-channel.com and thet1mes.com—all of which seem to be impersonating legitimate news outlets Al Jazeera, BBC News, and The Times.

None of the websites gave any independently verifiable information about Ramos, his condition, and the hospital in which he was supposedly confined.

However, Ramos was actually seen alive and well in the Philippines on Thursday evening, October 27, at the Turkey National Day celebration hosted by Amb. Esra Cankorur in Makati City. — JST, GMA News
