Pia Wurtzbach posts bikini photo with an important message
Reigning Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach posted a bikini photo on Instagram on Monday to get people's attention—in order to set some people straight about her advocacy to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS.
"I haven't forgotten about my advocacy, ok?" she wrote.
"I'm so tired of people complaining that I haven't found 'the cure' for HIV when clearly I said I would raise awareness. I'm not magically gonna come up with a potion that cures everything," she added.
Wurtzbach said that some fans thought she "wasn't doing any effort" because she wasn't posting about her daily activities every time, saying she doesn't feel the need to do so.
"Am I gonna carry my phone around with me and take every selfie, every photo I see to ease your worries?" she wrote.
Wurtzbach added that she prefers to focus on the actual work and that she can't afford to miss the experience by spending too much time focusing on social media.
She said that she is a "woman of [her] word" and that what she says in public is a promise.
"I put my phone down and I work. And did it work? Yes. Sometimes the plans you carry have a bigger chance of reaching a larger magnitude if you're just focused on the work," she said.
"Why worry about updating everyone on social media and in the process losing the experience because you were on your phone the whole time staging photos."
To some people who for some reason expect her to solve HIV—a global medical crisis that doctors, researchers, institutions and governments all over the world have been working on for decades—she says, "I can't work a miracle here. I still consider myself as a student and I'm learning more and more everyday."
With her characteristic humor, Wurtzbach ended the post with a cheeky, "Oh and here's a bikini photo. Just so I get your attention." — Jannielyn Ann Bigtas/BM, GMA News
