Fighting game fans who have been itching for a new entry into Marvel and Capcom’s dynamic crossover series “Marvel vs Capcom” won’t be getting any new updates anytime soon, as a producer for Marvel Vs Capcom 3 noted on his Twitter feed that there is little to no updates happening for a new sequel.

According to Ryota Niitsuma on Twitter, “nothing was happening on that front”, but he extended his appreciation to the fans for showing their support and dedication for wanting a new entry in the MvC franchise down the line. “Thanks for keeping the love of the game going!” he said on his Twitter feed. “I would love to make #mvc4, but nothing’s happening on that front.”

As with all things that require using characters from another brand or franchise, licensing plays heavily into bringing characters from companies like Marvel into the world of Capcom’s fighting games. With the release of Marvel Vs Capcom 3 in 2011, it took 11 years for Capcom and Marvel to create a new sequel since the release of their last mega-crossover ‘Marvel Vs Capcom 2”, and the leap to 3D graphics was a monumental step while retaining the same 2D gameplay that has made the series popular worldwide to fighting game fans. Capcom even released a standalone update to MvC 3 in “Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3”, adding new characters like Marvel’s Hawkeye and Phoenix Wright from the Ace Attorney series while updating the game with some new modes and balance changes.

The future for Marvel Vs Capcom is uncertain at this point, but fans keeping the fandom alive is a step towards realizing a possible sequel in the future. — TJD, GMA News
