MANILA, Philippines- The government has been assisting the family of the Filipina and her seven-month-old son who were killed in Tokyo last week by her Japanese husband, the Department of Foreign Affairs said on Tuesday. "We are in consultation with the family on the disposition of the remains of both mother and son," DFA spokesperson Claro Cristobal said. Crisanta Lopez, 33, and her son, Naomasa, were killed by Nagano Masayoshi, 43, on March 17. Online news site Japan Today earlier reported that Nagano is a driver of Seibu Bus Co and surrendered to police at Higashikurume City in Tokyo on Thursday, confessing to the killing of his wife and son. The report added that Nagano committed the murder after being troubled by the baby's crying as well as his lack of confidence in his job performance. An e-mail sent to GMANews.TV on Sunday by a certain Leonora Leonardo, who identified herself as a close friend of Lopez, confirmed that Nagano killed his wife and son not only due to an existing loan as previously reported by the DFA but also out of jealousy. “Hindi lang loan ang dahilan kung bakit n'ya pinatay ang kaibigan ko at ang anak (nila) kundi nagseselos s'ya sa sarili n'yang anak magmula pa nang ipinanganak ito nung isang taon, July 30, 2007 (My friend was killed not only for a loan, but also because he [Nagano] is jealous of their son who was born last July 30, 2007)," Leonardo said. Leonardo explained that another reason for the killing is that Nagano was kept awake by his son's incessant crying. “Ang isa pang dahilan, kung bakit daw n'ya pinatay 'yung bata dahil daw iyak ng iyak sa gabi. Hindi na daw s'ya makatulog dahil sa sobrang ingay (Another reason why [ Nagano ] killed the baby is because of the baby’s crying. [ Nagano complained] that he cannot sleep anymore because of it)," she added. After killing his wife and son, Nagano attempted to hang himself but failed. Responding police told Japan Today that they saw the victims’ bodies in the living room of their apartment in Higashikurume. Philippine Consul General in Tokyo Sulpicio Confiado was quoted earlier in reports as saying that based on autopsy results, Lopez died of severe bleeding due to knife wounds while the baby died from strangulation. Nagano is currently under Japanese police custody. - Mark J. Ubalde, GMANews.TV
